Zoltan Popovits started designing for the Finnish company Lapponia in the 1970's when he was working primarily as a sculptor. The first piece he did for Lapponia was a beautifully designed chess set in silver. He said he was inspired by nature and more specifically the bones of small animals. The design for the knight piece was directly influenced by the skull of a bird.
Popovtis has a distinctively organic style defined by his strong sense of elegant minimalism. It's a style that has remained a constant throughout his long career and continues to define his most recent work. I think his passion and focus are what makes his vintage jewelry unique and so highly collectible.
